ALTER EGO - RAZON (self produced)
Alter ego are from Spain and they enchant us on this MCD with a kind of hard'n'heavy with a lot of feeling. Songs like "Apaga la Luz" or "Haz con migo lo que queiras", will remind you of the 80's music. The production is not great especially on the voice and bass but the drums and guitars are excellent. Another weak point is the length of the melodies with some exceptions, last just for 2-3 minutes which I think is a little bit to short, especially for the kind of music that they are trying to play.

ABORTION CLINIC- "PREMATURE BIRTULATION" (2001 WEKILLUSHOLDINGS)
Some say that music is made by God, some say that music is made by the devil. I say that Abortion Clinic makes music. Who are they? they are a band from U.S.A. You might say that there are a lot of bands in the U.S.A. what makes this band so special? Not the music, an average thrash/punk metal (great drummer!!!), band, but the lyrics: extract: "anal vapor it wasn't gases or do you need paper"? Very philosophical one (man's primal needs). You could see in this the hard thinking of the composer of the lyrics(maybe he wrote the lyrics farting) Another great lyrical work is: "Ode to a new TV sitcom" (no comment) did you know that "human beings are practically chicken"? The best track of this CD is : "Bog of the eternal stench" (0:09 min) I think they beat the record in the large world of music, this is really insane !!! Highly recommended to the people who eat snakes!

Anguish-"Promo 2002"(2002 self released)
Anguish is from Malaysia and somehow they remind me of Vrykolakas.....They are playing an average death metal with good and bad parts. The main bad part are the vocals which are of a low quality, then the production which is very poor and the sound is low mixed. The three tracks on this MCD (two composed by them and a cover version of Carcass's "Incarnated solvent abuse" which is played live).the interpretation is almost good so if you like it in a pure underground way get it....

Aardia – Fairy tales from beyond (Witchcraft and Folklore, Dark Ambient/Neo Classical, 2003)

The second release from Aardia brings music of a unique shape. Dark ambiance , inspired by Lovecraft, Poe or Tolkien`s works performed without mistake . A wonderful atmosphere created by the piano, sounds of battles and angelic voices which brings you close to the Dark Ages.
The cover artwork is also great .If you want to listen to their music you surf to:

Anthenora- The general’s awakening (Self released, Heavy metal, Italy 2002)

Pure 80`s heavy metal high-class!!! Four songs played in a simple but effective way. Good guitar riffs and vocals which are very heavy, a drummer who knows how to beat the drums and a very good bassist!
With songs like “Gemini” or “The Savior” they will please every heavy metal fan.

AGONIZER- Cain (Demo 2003)

This finland band plays a good heavy metal with new metal influences: keyboards, clean voices and simple riffs... 3 songs included in this good demo with intense parts. Finally Agonizer´s sound shows a lot of influence from nowaday´s new metal style. If you are a follower of the evolution of metal, go and ge it....

AAAARGH!- Bloody Two Handed Chainaxe Blow - The musical body (Self Released, experimental, France,2002)

A very monotonous release based on the concept of how should music not to be played .Music , hmmm , what they offer here cant be described as music , simply because is not . They are playing instruments, guitar, I couldn’t hear anything else , a drumm-machine,that you can hear only on one track, and a growled voice which appear from time to time . Almost the same guitar line on the entire release .The songs are very long, almost all of them having more than 10 minutes in length, and very boring. No sign of variation! If they wanted that this release the most boring release ever created I think that they’ve reached their purpose ! If not they should think before releasing this kind of music again. The worst musical album that I have ever listened to !

AGONIZER - Cain the slayer (Self-released, Modern Metal, Finland, 2003)

Well here is a very qualitative material from this band. Mixing Hard Rock with heavy metal and soem thrash they show a high level of composition. The music is very powerfull and fresh and I can see here the potential for one of the future big bands in the metal world. How many good new bands will come from the land of the thousand lakes because it seems that almost everything comming from there must be of high quality?

AGONY - Call the rain(I.F.A. Records, Doom, Czech Republic , 2003)

The cover artwork, the first thing that you see when you buy a CD , is very doomy , sculptures of angels and gothic crucifixes. The name of the band is also predestinated for a gothic or death metal band . When it comes to music they don’t prove to be of such a great quality . "Happy" rhythms and childish lyrics about their unsatisfied love, but they are not written in that good manner and they look like a bad joke to me . I believe that there will be fans to their music , and there are some good melodies like "From dusk `till dawn " and "Winter flower" which are starting in a good manner but then they are evolving in not so inspired melodies .As a bonus you’ll get a Video from one of their songs from the CD . Only for fans of the genre.

ARGUS - Obscur si etern (Self released, raw black metal, Romania, 2000)

After three demos this is the first Argus CD. You can see evolution here, from the sound to the manner of composition. Mainly here you can find slow atmospheric black metal, followed by lots of raw black metal passages. Everything sounds good here with an extra point for the vocals and the keys a little bit influenced by Negura Bunget. Favorite songs:”Evocand Lumina Lunii” (this song also appears on the “Tribute to the mighty promo”), “Iarna Neagra”. I recommend this to all Darkthrone fans. This is true black metal in the Norse way!

ATAVISM / DRAIN OF IMPURITY / MINCER– 3 Way split Brutalmaggedon (Coagulated Records, Gore/Grind, 2003, Greece/Austria/Italy)

Atavism, the monsters from Greece, are the openers of this Brutalmaggedon and after an strange movie sample intro they show us what they can do best. Creating one of the most brutal music around, the vocals are in the U.S. gore grind vein, totally uninteligible.

Abdominal Cavity - Cranial dust (Self released, Brutal Death/Grind, Finland, 2002)

The sickest of you will definitely like what this finnish band called ?Abdominal Cavity? has to offer. 14 short songs of the brutal kind made ofcourse to make you vomit your intestines and then slowly to chew them. The vocals, surrely non-human, the music, the most extreeme kind of death/grind. It may be that is not the best band and not even the most technical but the attitude is just right. Reccomended !

A GRUESOME FIND-Raven of the full moon eclipse (Vile Art Rec., black/death, U.S.A., 2002)

This Ohioan band labels their music as black metal. I find this labeling in fact as a combination of black and death metal. You can find almost anything in their music fast parts, slow parts, atmospheric keyboards and a well played progressive dimension. The songs are well structured and the most important for their music is the rhythmical section where there are very good combinations. This is not the usual type of music you are used to .It worth’s a try.

A GRUESOME FIND-The fire that burns in hell (Vile Art Records, Black/death, U.S.A., 2003)

This is the first album of the demons from the states. Stylistically this is a mixture of early Absu and Emperor of course they have also some personal elements, the songs are all over four minutes and they have a progressive touch such as in “Summoning the nocturnal spirit” that starts with a piano melody that later evolves into a black metal song but the initial melody it is kept and appears later in the song ,and there are also again some progressive combination in the rhythm and not many black metal bands dare to play in such manner. The only pure black metal song is “Blasphemous Blood storms” a song of have summoned by these four demons. There are some passages in the song “Devoid of humanity” that are making me shiver at so much anger developed, such high seed that interrupted by slow breaks and that the holocaust is unleashed again! One of my favorites songs also is “...as the wind blows in darkness” another song influenced by black metal that has some high speed passages, a pity that the speed in not kept on the entire song. This is an album to check out!

ACHERON-Tribute to devils music (Black Lotus Rec., satanic death/black, U.S.A., 2003)

What’s new to tell about Crowley and the rest of Acheron? Maybe not much but now it’s my turn to review the cover collection entitled “Tribute to devil’s music” .It features 11 covers from big manes of rock/metal scene like: Black Sabbath, Death, Kreator, Bathory, Venom and many more and as an extra song you will find an unreleased version of the classic “Ave Sathanas” maybe one of the best and well knows song of Acheron. The styles that are to be founded here are variate, from doom to thrash and black or death metal. Almost every song has different line-ups (the songs being recorded in different moments of Acheron’s existence). The best covers are in my opinion “Flag of hate” and “Raise the dead”. So there’s nothing new here just a very good collection of cover songs. Now they have released a new album (I hope you will read later about it I hope : ))

Anubi – God’s Pantheon (Odium records, Ritual Black metal, Lithuania, 1993)

Anubi is proposing a weird kind of dark music oriented to black metal. The sound is not that good but it has that Underground feeling, the songs are slow and atmospheric and it’s looking like a jam session, where everybody is playing something different but in the end it looks like some kid of music. There are some interesting songs like: “Ozirio Teismas”, “Menulio Pasloptis”, and “Keisa Ateistis”. The package for this is a small piece art; it’s a Digi-pack with original drawings made by Lord Ominous, the vocalist of this project. This is only for underground maniacs.
